Toronto doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jennifer Cram talks about diet and nutrition during pregnancy. She starts off by saying that it is not exactly true that a pregnant woman is “eating for two” and while cravings might try to dictate what your pregnant body consumes, it is important to consume the right things to properly fortify your body and your baby’s body. Empty calories to you are empty calories to the baby. As for exercise, she discusses the obvious no-nos like soccer and water-skiing, but gives some guidance to other activities that could be harmful to mother and baby.

While there are physical activities an expectant mother should avoid, Dr. Cram stresses that it is very important for her to have some exercise. She gives tips as to what types of activities and exercises are acceptable for a pregnant woman, and talks a lot about the benefits of exercising while pregnant. Not only is it good for the baby, but it is also good for the mommy. It helps her to handle the act of childbirth better, it enables her to lose the baby weight faster, and it can ward off post-partum depression. Best of all, it promotes a healthy body image for a mother who can pass that down to her child. It’s out of maternity clothes and into your skinny jeans again!
